04-04-08 SOCIETY RED - WORTH THE CLICK
Category: Music

How it goes...

So, yesterday I am making my regular rounds of music news and I read a blurb about Paul Phillips of Operator (and former Puddle of Mudd guitarist) working on a side project with Society Red out of Jacksonville, Fl.

For those of you who may not know, Operator’s vocalist Johnny Strong has been filming a movie, hence the downtime right now.

The sign of a true musician is they find something within their field, whether it be song writing, producing, or taking up a side project when on their off time. It’s paramount to keep learning something new and by jamming with new players, something fresh comes to the table, keeps the creativity flowing, and reminds you why you are in the music business to begin with.

I gave them a spin on their MySpace Page, I like what I’m hearing. Refreshing rock, not stale or stagnant, not the same old stuff we are hearing on radio.

Love and Hate - Quick and aggressive. Great guitar riffs, vocals are tight, sharp, the singer definitely has the pipes.

High Life - Thumping intro, ’serious as a heart attack,’ lyric narrows it down, this band is all business.

Chasing The Reason - Great track, it’s one of those songs you instantly like if you favor middle-of-the-road rock. Reflective, talking to oneself, and asking the question are we here for ourselves or working too hard to please others?

Vegas - An observation of society, fast paced, no lulls, never boring, solid.

So Unhappy Demo - While the song title may lead you to think this song is going to be drudgery and sad, it’s more about getting out and moving on.

Put the headphones on, crank it up. Loud is good.

Louder is better :)

And if you are in the Jacksonville area next weekend, check out Society Red at Jack Rabbits.

If my daughter still lived there, I think I’d be making a road trip :)
