The
Good
The
trails
and
tribulations
of
being
a
superstar
are
explored
on
the
opening
hard
rock
track
“Famous.”
One
has
to
wonder
if
Wes
Scantlin
is
taking
an
outsiders
point-of-view
or
and
insider’s.
I
can
forgive
him
for
lifting
a
line
from
Dire
Straits’
“Money
for
Nothing”
because
the
song
kicks
ass.
Fuzzy
guitars
and
soulful
vocals
run
rampant
on
“Livin’
on
Borrowed
Time.”
I
was
getting
concerned
that
Puddle
of
Mudd
lost
their
acoustic
guitars
until
“It
Was
Faith”
kicked
in.
The
song
is
a
mid-tempo
rocker
with
uplifting
lyrics.
Scantlin
has
always
flirted
with
ballads,
but
“We
Don’t
Have
to
Look
Back
Now”
is
a
full-on,
emotional
ballad
complete
with
soft
piano
embellishments.
“Merry-Go-Round”
has
a
Nirvana-type
feel
to
it.
The
track
has
a
great
bounce
and
vocal
melody
to
it.
“Radiate”
has
just
the
right
blend
of
the
serenity
and
energy
that
power
ballads
are
made
of.
The
Bad
Nothing
notable
The
Verdict
Puddle
of
Mudd
keeps
right
on
their
path
of
mixing
catchy
melodies
with
simple,
yet
relatable
lyrics.
The
acoustics
take
a
backseat
to
stronger
guitar
progressions
on Famous,
but
it
doesn’t
take
away
from
the
group’s
knack
for
writing
memorable
songs
that
you
want
to
hear
over
and
over
again.

You
