Puddle’s Powerful Experience
Puddle Of Mudd’s recent trip to play for America’s
troops left the band with an experience they’ll never forget. The band agreed
to take part after learning the troops had requested them to play. Singer Wes
Scantlin told us, “Everybody was a little scared and it sounded a little
funky, a little dicey and sketchy when we first heard about it.” But the band
decided to go, and they played in Germany and Kuwait. “Everything looked real
familiar cause we had seen it on the news,” said Scantlin. “It was like
stepping into a CNN movie.” The group visited military hospitals, one of
Saddam Hussein’s palaces, and took part in autograph signings while there. One
soldier in particular, Sgt. Pepper, presented the band with a bronze star he
received after getting injured in a car bombing. As for the shows, Scantlin
says, “They’ve got like four or five tanks around the stage and this one
tank had the flamethrowers…and everybody had their AR-15’s, their M-16’s,
and their weapons. And the…women soldiers, it was crazy. I’ve never seen a
bunch of pretty good-looking girls walking around with AR-15’s and 9MM’s. It
was really kind of sexy.” The band filmed footage of the trip that they plan
to use in an upcoming DVD release.
